About Greg:​ As a successful commercial illustrator and fine art painter Greg has sold more than 1500 paintings to date! His beautiful abstract landscape paintings resonate with his collectors and painters alike. Greg taught part time at the Milwaukee Institute of Art And Design and later at Hawkeye Community College for almost five years all the while working as a professional Illustrator. And he recently taught two, week long workshops for us on Vancouver Island.
​He paints with a humorous, lighthearted approach and refers to his painting style as just "Playing with Paint". 
He has been represented by galleries in North and South Carolina, Iowa and Wisconsin but now prefers to sell to his collectors and world wide through his Etsy shop at  HargreavesArt.

Project#1    Hinged Cuff 
2 Day Workshop​​

Hinged Cuff With Omega Clasp
This project requires a lot of sterling.  The material fee for this one project will be $100.00
This gorgeous multifaceted cuff brings many new skills to a jeweller's tool belt. You'll spend 2 days learning to forge bands, make clean, functioning hinges along with a new style of clasp known as the "omega clasp".
All aspects are designed to work together to create a dynamic cuff with a secure closure that fades seemlessly into the design. This lends itself to a fluid statement piece, while remaining functional and secure.
Students sold these right off their wrists in the last session. You will have a large selection of beautiful stones to select from.

​Project#2  Art Deco Pendant
1 Day workshop
​Builing layer upon layer creates real depth in this piece. The Art Deco Pendant plays with space and clean lines.  You will design your own pendant with the use of sqare sterling silver wire that we will playfully build up to create a 3 dimensional effect. You will have the option of a natural or synthetic round facted stone for your piece in whatever color stone you wish.

​Along with the construction of this pendant, you will also learn a fun and easy twist on the classic prong setting that you will learn to construct for the setting of your stone. Various chains along with the much requested omega chains will be available for purchase to go with your beautifully finished pendant.

Project#3  Tension Set Ring
1 Day Workshop  
Monday, November 3rd

​Stylish, simple elegance is what this ring is all about.  
This project will focus on creating a tension in our heavy sterling silver bands that can securely hold a stone suspended between the two sides of the band. 
You will start with bending your heavy wire into a ring shape and then focus on work hardening the band so that it creates the strength in the band to hold your stone in place. ​

Once that has been achieved, students will learn how to size the ring for different sized stones and then how to set their stones securely.  Once all this has been achieved we will focus on finishing it off with a soft brushed finish or a high polish.
It's the perfect everyday ring, you'll want to make one in every colour!  You will have a choice of a natural or synthetic round or oval faceted stone for this project.

THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD ABSTRACT PAINTING WORKSHOP

-Explore modes of bold mark-making that lend to immediacy and intensity.
-Consider the use of words as figures or forms for seducing the audience.
-Employ layering to generate unpredictable metaphor and allegory.
-Utilize wiping and rubbing to explore vulnerability and reveal hidden beauty and strength.​

​GOALS FOR THIS WORKSHOP ​
​To develop courage and confidence in yourself, your practice and your mark-making.
Learn the difference between common work that is “easy,” and distinctive work that grabs viewers and makes a lasting impression. 
Initiate a process-oriented practice that will build trust and faith in your ability to make bold and memorable work. 
Jason will share tips and tools for moving past thought, breaking through blocks and shattering doubt while overcoming procrastintion.​​
 You will define what you truly hope to achieve in your art practice and set a course to reach it.  ​
